There can be no doubt Christianity pollutes American life, law, government, jobs, culture, and society with irrational ideas based on an improbable religion. If you are a first-time reader of Christian Pollution literature, we urge you to investigate the issues raised herein and find your conclusions based on relevant facts and logic. If reading because Christianity disturbed or harmed you, we hope to provide insight into the seriousness of this problem and reasons to abandon the religion.

As discussed in our first book, Christian pollution refers to the values and beliefs manifesting in all areas of America, but most damagingly — within our thinking. Living in a Christian-dominated society makes everyone prone to acting on religious ideals (we may not even believe) or makes us victims of its pollution. The risk of self-harm and hurting others is far greater than you perceive since deeply embedded Christian “values” can inspire those same glaring behavioral hypocrisies witnessed and loathed in Christians.

This thought pollution justifies anything.

To believe in Christianity, you must accept an implausible scenario as your thought foundation, resulting in rationality cemented in possibilities rather than the facts of reality, no different than believing the wrong mathematical formulas. If you believe 1+1=3, all calculations made will be wrong. Unlike math’s clarity, Christianity mires in confusion with an implausible belief leading to a subjective, erroneous reality in which seemingly correct answers result.

Christians claim the Bible presents valuable wisdom, and some scripture is sensible, such as “do unto others.” Yet the same religion preaching “do unto others” claims homosexuals should die. Biblical contradictions, so commonly mentioned today, became trite, demanding deeper scrutiny of the thinking necessary to justify these opposing ideas.

Not merely failures of logic, contradictions represent cognitive dissonance, which refers to inconsistencies between thoughts or between thoughts and behavior, causing internal discord or discomfort. If you consider yourself a loving, caring person, putting a homosexual to death violates your self-perception and causes distress. This trait is beneficial, maintaining consistent thoughts and behavior necessary for a harmonious life. If you view yourself as a selfless person on Tuesday and give the poor money, then on Wednesday, steal from work to replace the money you handed out the day before, life turns to chaos. Instead, your mind limits generosity based on your needs and theft’s sense of wrongness, tempering you into a reasonably altruistic person.

Christianity violates the rational balancing of needs and morality, allowing believers to overcome dissonance by justifying contradictions, thereby creating discord. The contradictory thinking elicited from an improbable belief (Christianity) appears rational because what appears as wisdom, “do unto others,” is just practical insight found in most cultures in one form or another. This wisdom becomes susceptible to irrational application, having been filtered by Christianity, perfectly explaining the many glaring contradictions inherent in Christians, like believing “do unto others” while trying to oppress entire populations such as LGBTQ.

You are rendered insane by Christianity.1

Christian-induced distorted thinking’s acuteness depends on the amount, frequency, and severity of contradictions.2 Little research exists in this area because living in a Christian-dominated society biases everyone to perceive the religion as healthy or minimally safe. This perception is false, and evidence suggests Christianity causes a constant irrational state. The best evidence for this causal effect is the cognitive distortions Christians must create to justify their dissonance.

The only way Christians prove their ideas is through rationalizations: cognitive distortions.

Cognitive Distortions

The Bible, Christianity’s implausible foundation, inspires many fallacies needed to justify the Christian worldview, but the abundance and severity of these fallacies dictate they are less a result of poor argument skill and more indicative of cognitive distortions. Persecution, an idea widely embraced by the Christian worldview, exemplifies their distorted understanding.3 Any American Christian believing themselves or their fellow believers to be victims of persecution lacks reason, to the point of being almost delusional since this religion dominates US culture and law. Beyond problems created from believing themselves persecuted, Christians exhibit cognitive distortions with such severity and frequency that arguing poor argument skills as the sole explanation seems unlikely. More to the point, repeatedly committing the same logical contradictions exemplifies their repetition of fallacies.4

That is the definition of a pathology!

A thin line separates cognitive distortions from fallacies seen readily comparing their definitions. Psychology describes cognitive distortions differently depending on the researcher, but generally accepted distorted thought patterns yield the tremendous overlap of these descriptors:

1. Filtering: Magnifying negative details “while filtering out all positive aspects of a situation,” often focusing on a single detail and coloring the whole event by this detail.5

2. Polarized Thinking: an insistence on dichotomous choices…black or white, good or bad, and the tendency to perceive everything in extremes with very little room for a middle ground.6

3. Overgeneralization: Coming to a general conclusion based on a single incident or evidence. Expecting negative circumstance to repeat after a single occurrence.7

Aligning by enumeration with these distortions are fallacies,

1. The fallacy of composition: inferring that the part is true of the whole.8

2. False dilemma:  Also known as a false dichotomy, this fallacy is a limitation of options based on a premise that ignores other available choices.9

3. The fallacy of overgeneralization: A conclusion derived from a sample, not representative of the population for being too small and too focused.10

Christian purity, like most things Christian, purports to be a beneficial ideology but instead affirms misogyny and inequality. The same Christians, Focus on The Family, lobbying against LGBTQ adoption, parenting, marriage, and other rights, explain purity’s importance: “through faith, our bodies are no longer our own,” having become “part of Christ’s body,” which now means sex requires obtaining permission (marriage) from “Christ through the Church,” since you will “join His body to another body.”1

Do Christians even think about what they say?

Obviously not. Before you twist your chastity belts in screams about purity being an evangelical issue and accuse me of painting all Christians with the same brush, keep in mind Catholics refer to purity as “modesty” and profess the same bullshit, evidenced by Monsignor Charles M. Mangan in “The Forgotten Virtue: Modesty In Dress,” defining modesty as 

…the virtue that regulates one’s actions and exterior customs concerning sexual matters. It controls one’s behavior so as to avoid unlawful sexual arousal in oneself or others.2

And Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints echoes the same nonsense,

Central to the command to be modest is an understanding of the sacred power of procreation, the ability to bring children into the world. This power is to be used only between husband and wife. Revealing and sexually suggestive clothing, which includes short shorts and skirts, tight clothing, and shirts that do not cover the stomach, can stimulate desires and actions that violate the Lord’s law of chastity.3

You might ask, “So what’s the harm in Christians wanting to keep their bodies pure for Christ?”

Unsurprisingly, Christian modesty beliefs (purity) resound across the Christian and unChristian world. You don’t have to be a Christian to buy into the purity values that elevate men by turning women and girls into sexual objects, such as the blatant sexual harassment of Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez on the steps of the Capital by a man describing her as a “big booty Latina.”4

Even more shocking is this behavior’s acceptance by many Christians, such as Marjorie Taylor Green who claimed Cortez should be honored by the catcalling.

The more fundamentalist, the more orthodox the purity culture.

This thinking perfectly explains the high risk of sexual assault for children in religious settings, especially in insular religious communities. The Truth Project Thematic Report on Child Sexual Abuse In The Context Of Religious Institutions reported, “The most common age range for participants to first experience abuse in a religious context was 8–11 years old (41 percent).”5

What could be purer than a child?

As I said before, Christians have such a bad problem with child sexual abuse that entire studies commit to researching the issue. Not only do Christians have this abundance of child sexual abuse, but the religion worsens the problem by hiding it for long periods.6

Amazingly, or perhaps not so amazingly, Christians and others in the Christian-dominated United States buy this purity mumbo jumbo, or at least the part that elevates men while reducing women to their sexuality’s worth. Like most religious beliefs, most Christians cannot obey purity, but lack of adherence doesn’t stop hypocritical Christians from pretending to be pure, couching this belief in ideas like saving the family from the evil LGBTQ whose improper vagina and penis use makes them impure: a judgment completely non sequitur to good parenting or qualifying people to have families. Worse yet, Christian men, empowered by purity beliefs, feel entitled to enforce Christian purity in their families, but all women. Seen on social media like TikTok, men on beaches and other places harass girls about their clothing.

Virginity is a gift brought to the marriage, mainly by the woman because men cannot control themselves but make up for this flaw by leading the home as a breadwinning, spiritual leader as the woman assumes the wife/mother house-manger position: roles God assigned and clarified by the respective presence of penis and vagina. The Christian wife/mother’s success or failure reveals in raising accountable, hardworking sons and training girls to dress modestly to keep boys safe from themselves. Responsible for men’s impurity and her own, the Christian wife/mother emphasizes the daughter’s modest dress and the necessity to save themselves for marriage. A toxic culture of misogyny arises in expectations for women to sexually please men with their untouched-by-another-man, pure vaginas, justified by the penis-wielder as the leader. If not sexually or domestically abused, women suffer the internalization of impurity since clearly, they lead men astray, causing girls and women like Linda Kay Klein “an epidemic” of that “is traumatizing many girls and maturing women haunted by sexual and gender-based anxiety, fear, and physical experiences” not unlike “the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).”1

How would you feel if taught your sexuality and gender are the cause of your and others’ sin?

Like many Christian beliefs, purity proves to be another tool of patriarchy that maintains women in service to men. More than reinforcing male domination, Klein reveals purity as the measurement of Christian commitment, a sign of authenticity, and part of an “‘us’ versus ‘them’” mentality.2 Purity unifies but also elevates Christians to that sanctimonious arrogance they feel for holding the truth. Purity, more than just an untouched vagina for men to enjoy, serves as a key to the Christian community that locks out the impure, inauthentic Christians and nonChristians. The purity key opens the door for liberals, conservatives, all sects, and all classes, differing only in names: modesty or purity.

Alcoholics Anonymous and Christianity are intrinsically linked by origin and beliefs, though both claim they are unrelated. Christianity is a religion, while AA purports to be a spiritual alcohol recovery program, but AA is a bizarre booze-based Christian sect masking many Christian ideas in its program. For example, AA's twelve steps, devoid of any science, supposedly form a recovery method, but these steps are religious rites meant to achieve a magical state known as “sobriety” or “serenity” (used synonymously).

Despite the word sobriety meaning “not drunk,” AA members use sobriety as a qualifier of the individual’s sanity, morality, spirituality, and alcohol abstinence. If someone is in a bad mood, they lack sobriety, which bizarrely pertains little to alcohol consumption, as this idea forms an accusation of poor quality or lack of spirituality. The way Christians internalize purity's shame, guilt, and fear, AAs become emotionally stunted in a culture where laughing too hard or showing too much emotion risks showing a lack of sobriety or spirituality.

AA aims to remedy uncontrolled drinking using the steps of the program to remove or “turn over to God” ego, selfishness, resentments, and other “character defects” that cause alcoholism and bar serenity.

You read correctly; no cognitive behavioral therapy, pharmaceuticals, or simple abstinence can thwart the disease of alcoholism. Only through God and confessing sins can you stop boozing, clearly denoted by the steps of the program: 

Step One: We admitted we were powerless over alcohol — that our lives had become unmanageable.

Step Two: Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

Step Three: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

Step Four: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. ~Twelve Steps & Twelve Traditions1

First, you must admit you are “powerless over alcohol,” a wise decision when dealing with a bad habit or neurosis. What could go wrong with thinking you are powerless over the behavior you wish to cease performing?

Having admitted you are powerless, you now come to believe or convince yourself that only a Power greater than yourself can restore sanity, thus affirming you have faith, life was unmanageable (true or not), and you are insane.

Having come to believe in that Power greater than yourself, you turn your will and life over to the care of God because your uncontrollable habit and insanity are far more effectively treated by an invisible, omnipotent deity who wants to heal you, despite allowing you to corrupt yourself with ego and character defects in the first place.

Wait! Step Three gets better.

Not only is this God going to heal you, despite having shown no interest in your life prior, but the God healing you is one you choose. AAs discuss turning their lives over to the care of God, forgiveness for sins, and even recite the Lord’s Prayer and the Serenity Prayer. The God of Alcoholics Anonymous sounds like the Christian God, but when AA’s refer to their higher power, they might refer to any number of things, including the spirit of the universe, aliens, or even Satan. Typically, most AAs refer and assume fellow members refer to a generic form of the Christian God, but there is no way to know since God forms members’ imaginations not from scripture or prophets. AAs define God in many, hardly biblical ways,

God = Get Out Devil

God = Gift Of Desperation

God = Gifts Offered Daily

God = Give Others Dignity

God = Giver Of Desires

God = Go On Dreaming

God = Good Orderly Direction.

Though these acronyms seem innocuous, they contradict Christian theology, but AA members see no problem redefining God. Most Christians would take issue with conceptualizing God in this manner but despise even more preaching AA can serve as God,

I must quickly assure you that A.A.’s tread innumerable paths in their quest for faith. … You can, if you wish, make A.A. itself your ‘higher power.’ Here’s a very large group who have solved their alcohol problem. In this respect they are certainly a power greater than you, who have not even come close to a solution. Surely you can have faith in them. Even this minimum of faith will be enough. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, William G. Wilson, page 27.2

AA’s primary founder, Bill Wilson, just stated you could make Alcoholics Anonymous your God.

God=Group of Drunks.

If AA’s invention of God were not offensive enough for Christians, AA teaches adherents to dismiss religious values and morality when convenient. If you don’t like the God of your parents, if he was too strict or doesn’t perform the miracles desired, then just get a new god.

The concept of “God as we understood Him'' was hard to grasp. My family believed there is only one way to view God. My parents used religion to keep me in line…I realized the God of my parents had come in a very small box, not expansive enough for me. I fired that God and hired a new one. My new Higher Power is much bigger than the old one. He doesn’t live in a box.”3

Hey, if you don’t like your God, fire him!

If you are going to believe theology, this is the worst, reducing God to an arbitrary whim. Getting rid of one God and adopting another is also heretical in Christianity since neither God nor Jesus is open to interpretation. AA interpretations of God deny His reality, similar to interpreting the existence of President Biden. The President exists and cannot be interpreted.

Alcoholics Anonymous beliefs are absurd, seen clearly with members discussing God and prayer while becoming upset at the mere mention of Jesus Christ. AA shuns this talk because Christ indicates religion, unlike constant God and Higher Power references, reciting the Serenity and Lord’s Prayer, or turning their "will and our lives over to the care of God." No, those are perfectly acceptable spiritual practices, while any mention of a specific God by name violates AA traditions, which mandate it to be a non-religious group.

Makes perfect sense.

AA’s first four steps focus on admitting a problem, accepting God, and making an inventory or, as AAs explain, writing down all your sins or mistakes, which you will later try to correct by making amends to everyone you wronged. While performing these steps, AAs tell you to keep attending meetings and continue praying. No other disease treatment, mental or physical, requires religiosity or belief in God in this manner.

Meetings sound like generic Christian sermons with names and identifiers redacted or replaced with "higher power," then mixed with pseudo-science. The effect of AA is the same as church with adopting bizarre ideas formed in a culture of faith derived from implausible ideas. Christians strive for closeness, purpose, and acceptance in purity as AA members endeavor for the same in serenity, denoted over and over in the AA literature,

A.A. has given me serenity of purpose and the opportunity to be of service to God and to the people about me, and I am serene in the infallibility of these principles that provide the fulfillment of my purpose.4

The goal for serenity sets AAs on the same road as Christians, evidenced by many Christian churches providing inexpensive or free meeting space. What should be adversarial becomes an incongruous relationship masked in spirituality, similar religious rhetoric, recitation of the same prayers, and praying to God. In AA, “purity” is “sobriety,” which is AA’s magical state of “serenity” which embeds in the culture, just like Christianity. In the AA worldview, sobriety is not merely a measure of abstinence or clean time. It is a measure of spirituality and the proof of having worked the steps via talking the talk and behavior judged by fellow AAs.

Just like Christians measuring each other’s purity, AAs quantify a lack of sobriety by someone’s cursing, anger, frustration, and other negative emotions. Serenity-filled AA members listen intently at meetings and quote the Big Book and Twelve and Twelve. They sponsor newcomers and chair meetings with their polished, perfected drunkalogues that never change because they are sober. The only new stories come from those still drinking.

This AA model of serenity, just like Christianity, is traditionally a man like the founding men of the program, so like the drunks who came before, he is a spiritual leader; though, he never says that because God is the only leader in AA.

Amidst a sea of old white men, model women with the smarts to get the program lead the new women on the path to serenity. Just like Christianity, sobriety culture admonishes sex, primarily for women, and AAs (both men and women) instruct members to avoid relationships for the first year while often pressuring and coercing them into sexual relations.

Still, AAs were warned not to have relationships, just like Christians, a directive that becomes internalized self-incrimination that reduces sex and relationships to wrongdoings or shameful interactions – primarily for women – by implying the newcomer is sick and incapable of having intimate relations. More importantly, AA purity serves the same purpose as Christian purity: an identifier of authentic AAs. Just like Christianity’s terrible sexual abuse problem typified by clergy or church elders preying upon the flock, AA Oldtimers use sobriety to prey on the weakest person in the room. AA calls this thirteen-stepping.

Just like Christianity, AA members talk like churchgoers on a Sunday morning but act like teens pressuring one another to participate in sex, less alcohol and drugs. Adults often prey on underage girls and boys sentenced by courts, parents, and counselors.

Just like the sexually abused Christians gaslighted by members and community to not say anything that might hurt the church, thirteen-stepping discussions take place in private, sexual assaults remain hidden from the public, and they are hardly ever prosecuted by police since AAs are reluctant to testify or talk due to the tradition of anonymity.

Keep your side of the street clean.

If you say something, you will only be hurting the AA.

None of these similarities should surprise anyone because AA is another sect or cult of Christianity, complete with the same sexism and misogyny Holly Whitaker, author of Quit Like a Woman, describes in The New York Times,

The values baked into its founding continue to shape the way the organization works, and it still has too many echoes for my liking of the ways women are expected to blame themselves, follow instructions and fall into line in a patriarchal society.1

Just like Christianity’s abuse forming in power dynamics of wise clergy taking advantage of naïve parishioners, AA becomes a breeding ground with sexual predators rising to the top of the spiritual hierarchy simply by not drinking, going to meetings, and conversing in the AA slogans and platitudes. Following these directives, the luckiest, you, sit in meeting after meeting, listening to AAs share their experience, strength, and hope, especially the gurus or Oldtimers, but anyone with more than a year of sobriety. You listen as the wise men relate the journey from hopeless boozer banging at Hell’s gate to the Nirvana-like, magical land of sobriety where gratitude abounds for the genericized Christian God who saved him when he sat right where you sit now.

So clear the answer appears now, not easy, but clear, having heard the requirement to ask God to save you. You leave the meeting, as you have many times, but this time fed up with your incessant drinking, embarrassment, and other issues, you ask the Christian-lite God to free you from the addiction. He answers, evidenced by your newfound ability to fight withdrawal stress and continue AA attendance.

Loathing adages lacking critical thought sometimes dissipates in agreement with their wisdom, such as the cure being worse than the disease. The hackneyed saying becomes a profound irony upon learning AA cures nothing. Every day, people attend AA believing they treat alcoholism and instead receive a booze-centered, brandless Christian catechism. No matter how passionately AAs swear they are a spiritual program, their practices and literature clearly show they are just another Christian sect, arguably a cult: meaningless terms serving to confuse more than clarify. Regardless, AA is Christian cult or sect, albeit one of the strangest derivations, denoted by many shared behaviors and attitudes.

AA most strikingly likens to Christianity in the self-righteousness trait. In Rebecca Fransway’s 12-step Horror Stories, a social worker describes AA members' attitudes regarding the comparison of alcoholics with substance abusers,

To make AA more palatable for the nonreligious, the founders genericized Christianity, which amounted to a bait-and-switch. No one wrote more extensively on this AA practice than Terrance Hodgins, a.k.a. Agent Orange, who ran the anti-AA Orange-Papers website for many years. He described this fraud as,

First they say:

“Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.”

But then they say:

“At the moment we are trying to put our lives in order. But this is not an end in itself. Our real purpose is to fit ourselves to be of maximum service to God and the people about us.” The Big Book, 3rd Edition, William G. Wilson, Into Action, page 77.

One of those two statements is a lie.

To get you to join, they will tell you that:

“It's spiritual, not religious.”

“It isn't a religion, it's just a fellowship of alcoholics who want to quit drinking.”

Alcoholics Anonymous is not a religious organization.

“Alcoholics Anonymous requires no beliefs.”

“Alcoholics Anonymous does not demand that you believe anything. All of its Twelve Steps are but suggestions.”

“You can use anything you wish for your Higher Power — a bedpan, or a doorknob, or a Group Of Drunks.”
Or, in Cocaine Anonymous, “G.O.D.” can be “a Group Of Drug addicts”. And the best ones that I've heard lately are: “God” can be “a cat” or “a parakeet”.

But, later, they will talk endlessly about “moral shortcomings”, confessions, surrender to God, and religion. You will only gradually find out that it is an intensely religious cult based on the strange teachings of a Hitler-admiring renegade fascist Lutheran minister named Dr. Frank Nathan Daniel Buchman, and the grandiose proclamations of one of his mentally-ill converts, William Griffith Wilson.1

To look at AA and not see the spiritual and recovery rhetoric as Christian-inspired is impossible, but by genericizing the religion, AA founders opened the organization to the unintended consequences of placing the program at odds with Christianity, at least in doctrine. What began as watered-down religion to make the program a nudge, nudge wink, wink understanding of Christianity soon became a sect or cult rather than a fellowship. Still, the program resembled Christianity enough that glaring contradictions with the religion didn’t matter.

No other reason explains this long, enduring relationship Christian churches maintain with this heretical organization.

AA’s invent-your-God practice should seem heretical to Christians because it is, but instead, most churches rent space to AA groups or give them space for free. If you can pick your God, you can pick your morals, and by removing commandments to genericize the Big Book’s religious foundation, AA created a flimsy morality based on Christian allusions to sin using resentments, selfishness, egotism, and other character defects (moral failings) as the causes of alcoholism. 

Make no mistake; these are Christian references denoting a Christian religion evidenced by confessing sins, prayer, turning one’s will over to God, and making amends.

Just like Christians interpret commandments and conflicting scripture, AAs interpret biblical allusions guided by an absent morality and produce the same if not worse values and culture than the Christians. According to AA, a person chooses their God and their morality, so if a person decides to make their higher power Satan and they feel His teachings should guide ethics, this is perfectly acceptable — supposedly. This fictitious choice reveals in the constant reciting of the Serenity and Lord’s Prayer as well as referencing sin and other biblical concepts,

As we became subjects of King Alcohol, shivering denizens of his mad realm, the chilling vapor that is loneliness settled down. It thickened, ever becoming blacker. Some of us sought out sordid places, hoping to find understanding companionship and approval. Momentarily we did–then would come oblivion and the awful awakening to face the hideous Four Horsemen–Terror, Bewilderment, Frustration, and Despair. Unhappy drinkers who read this page will understand!2

AA literature is a stream of biblical allusion, making clear the only God is the Christian God. Still, AA cannot stop a person from believing God is a doorknob, and though members rarely challenge the generic Christian version, AAs argue the need for their Christian-lite God,

You can choose a doorknob, but can a doorknob remove your resentments?

Can you turn your will over to the care of a doorknob?

If you’re going to choose a God, shouldn’t you choose one that is powerful enough to perform the miracle of sobriety?

These and similar statements show how AAs pressure members to accept the generic Christian God and the inability to enforce their God. Yet, force is not needed; the disease of alcoholism will accomplish what AAs cannot. When the nonbeliever relapses, as most AAs do, the members point out the mistake of choosing the wrong higher power, or the drunk will remember the prior warning.

Along with heresy and perversion of values, AAs should offend churches with their contempt and hostility for Christianity, often openly displayed during meetings in the church basements. Members often say things like:

Who needs church; I get everything I need in AA.

Church is for people looking for God, AA is for people who have found him.

Church is for people who fear hell; AA is for people who have already been there.

The irony of AAs expressing gratitude for God in drunkalogues and holding hands praying in church basements while venting hostility at the church would make Christians laugh if not for their seriousness. If ridicule did not insult enough, AA members’ arrogance should exasperate Christians, especially since much of that arrogance comes from one of their own. Dr. Sam Shoemaker was a clergyman and one of the founding friends and spiritual leaders of AA, providing room for the organization to grow through the Calvary Church.3 In his article, What the Church has to Learn from Alcoholics Anonymous, he criticizes church members for hypocrisy and relates to them how they could become better Christians by learning from AA members, outlined as:

Recognition of Need: Dr. Shoemaker expresses that Christians lack the strength of spirit that AA members maintain because they do not have the necessity to be convicted in the same manner.

Redeemed in Life-Changing Fellowship: This lesson centers on the idea that the church needs to become life-altering in the way AA is for alcoholics: achieved through recruitment.

Definite Personal Dealing with People: This lesson for the church instructs members to be more like AA, the way AA takes a personal interest in its members.

Necessity for a Real Change of Heart: Christians could learn to promote Christianity the way AA promotes itself by showing true transformation.4

Clearly, AA succeeded where Christianity failed, denoted by a long history of AA members believing their program is superior to the church, stated perfectly by an early member of the organization,

The relief of being accepted can never be known by one who never thought himself unaccepted. I hear of 'good Christian men and women' belonging to 'fine old church families.' There were no good Christians in the first church, only sinners. Peter never let himself or his hearers forget his betrayal in the hour the cock crew. James, stung by the memory of his years of stubborn resistance, warned the church members: 'Confess your faults to one another.' That was before there were fine old church families. Today, the last place where one can be candid about one's faults is in church. In a bar, yes; in a church, no. I know; I've tried both places.5

More than just seeing the church as a rejection, AAs see it as inferior and indoctrinate newcomers accordingly,

They hold the Big Book above both other religions and science, have special knowledge of God’s Will and believe that those who don’t “come to believe” face inevitable “jails, institutions, and death.” He [a newcomer] is not told that his religious beliefs are considered inferior and that, as he becomes more dependent on AA, great pressure will be brought to bear to change his belief system.6

With all this said, Christians should take offense to the perverting of their religion, yet churches and AA groups span nearly eighty years, not just with one church but with almost all denominations. You might ask why Churches continue associating with this offensive organization. In fairness to Christians, some churches don’t, but most do because AA's absurdity and fraud merely reflect Christianity's absurdity and fraud. Like most people outside AA, church congregations lack knowledge of AA and assume the program benefits attendees, but Church leaders probably understand AA's heresy but ignore it.

Practicality also likely reinforces church and AA relations. Moralizing problems like substance abuse dictates providing a moral solution. Churches claim substance abuse is sinful behavior, but faith and prayer fail to alleviate addiction. If churches tell people to pray, and they continue drinking, churches must either blame the parishioner or admit faith's ineffectiveness. AA removes this dilemma, allowing churches to continue condemning substance abuse while providing access to a cure. AA furnishes a solution, combining Christian-based spirituality with a disease model (or at least the illusion.) 

With the decline in Christian church membership, churches need not turn away drunks, and AA opens the door to possible converts. (People already speaking the same language of spirituality and God.) More importantly, churches ignore AA because AA is Christianity or a close enough approximation to pass for a Christian organization, and within that absurdity uniting Christian and booze churches, one finds…
