Like everything else, big awards have pluses and minuses, all built into the same phenomena, with little to do with your WRITING!
There’s a certain kind of lunacy winning a big, national award sets loose in my fantasy life, a writer who didn’t “make it” until I’d reached my 50s.
Still, making it is making it, and if one is lucky enough to experience it, I highly recommend it, especially the part where you don’t win a Pulitzer.
