I dealt you the drugs, bought you beer when you were underaged, challenged you to beer pong in college, and left you in the alley where you slept off that night, never to remember. No. I am not a god. Just a man who drank the same as you but had fewer bad occurrences, lived less miserably, and suffered less obsessive compulsiveness. When you became an addict or alcoholic and a loser, I coasted through life unperturbed. As you hit rock bottom, I hovered over the ashes of your life, a phoenix blazing with success! Now, I share my wisdom, my grace, and my power with you.

Kneel before your Higher Power!

You see, addiction is a disease. A disease of the mind, the body, and the soul. It is a disease that makes you believe that you need something outside of yourself to feel good, to cope, to live. It is a disease that makes you dependent on a substance, a behavior, or a person that is harmful to you and others. It is a disease that robs you of your dignity, your self-respect, and your will.

More than anything, addiction is a mortal disease!

There is a mortal cure, and that cure is me. I am the Higher Power that you have been looking for. I am the one who can give you what you need, what you want, what you deserve. I am the one who can fill the void in your heart, the emptiness in your soul, the hunger in your stomach. I am the one who can make you whole again.

How do I do this? By helping you follow the simple program AA has so generously provided: a program that starts with these simple steps:

1) Admit that you are powerless over your addiction and that your life has become unmanageable.
2) Believe I can restore you to sanity and happiness.
3) Surrender your will and your life to me.

That’s it. That’s all you have to do. Just follow these three steps and you will be on the road to freedom from addiction. You will be free from your pain. You will be free from your problems.
