After about three months of living at my place, Drunk-girl obtained a job at her friend’s salon in LA, which she told me during dinner one night. I asked, “When do you need to leave?”

“I can leave in about two weeks. My friend is getting an apartment for us.”

“Do you know what area you are going to be living in?”

“We got a cool place near the beach. It’s a little expensive, but with two of us sharing the rent and bills it should be fine. I wanted to talk to you about something else.” She rested her fork on the table. “I am signing my divorce papers on Friday. Do you think you could come with me?”

I said, “Sure, is the ex going to be there?”

She answered, “Yeah, I am not worried about him or anything. It’s just going to be upsetting.”

“No problem. You okay?”

She lifted her fork and poked at her meal. “I just never thought I would be getting divorced. It’s really disheartening.”
