In the summer of 1982, Sam Ude, who lived two houses away, entered life via a rare community party. Her friendlessness seemed odd since she was a pretty girl. Eating and watching some younger kids play, we discussed nothing beyond an introduction and where we lived in the neighborhood. Familiar, unknown students from Fradkin attended, but they knew DS and stayed away. Despite Sam attending private school, they also knew her from gossip and avoided her as well.
