I have been collecting my collected poems for a few weeks now, although, come to think of it, I’ve been “collecting” them for fifty years or so, off and on. I think of myself more as a poet than a novelist, though many more people have read my novels than my poems. After all, poems are a tough sell. But I’ve been pulling them (the poems) out of old manuscripts, files, journals, small press mags, grungy old, wrinkled sheets of paper, napkins, the backs of envelopes, and myriad places to put them in a “Collected Poems” document. This collection of my works runs between 2,000 and 1,800 electronic pages, depending on the font size. I have no idea how many print pages I have, but it will be a lot.
