You want to know about American polarization? Well, let me tell you, it is a wonderful thing. Polarization builds consensus. It is about finding synthesis and compromise, especially when people from different political parties hate each other so much that they can’t even agree on basic facts or cooperate on anything. Polarization leads to the middle ground between believing anyone who disagrees with you is evil, stupid, or brainwashed and actually being evil, stupid, and brainwashed. Polarization challenges us to find that bargain between listening to news sources that confirm beliefs and the sources that spread misinformation. Polarization is a negotiation between the lies and fake news to find that truth for policymaking.
Polarization is like a sport, where winning is everything and the other team is the enemy. No matter how crappy your fellow player or captain, you must maintain loyalty because winning is more important than competence or the good of the nation. Yes, ideology over pragmatism, and identity over policy!
