I am 74 years old. I’ve been writing, searching for, and hoping for fame and fortune for over 55 years. I recently read Ernest Becker’s amazing Pulitzer Prize-winning book, Denial of Death.

A short version/explanation of what Becker had to say: We do all the crazy shit we do as humans NOT b/c of sexual stages, as Freud hypothesized, but to avoid the frightening truth that no matter what Jesus freaks say and promise, we are all terrified of fuckin’ DEATH. That’s about it.
