Christian Reader Reacts With Love: A Twelve Stepper Defends God & AA
All the Love of Reader Reactions from Christian Charity & Shit
Below is a recent email received from one of our dear readers who, as is the case every so often, hates our guts through his Christian love (“You will know us by our love, by our love” you fuckin’ asshole fools!).
Comment:
84% of the worlds population is affiliated with a religion and God. Only 16% are not and your majority of those 16% are not atheist have a spiritual belief of some sort, you have some of the most highly intelligent people on the planet even most scientists who believe in a higher power, I love how you think you know better than them. You sound angry and ignorant in the rants that you call writing. Clearly your way of living has robbed you of your joy and made you a judgmental fool. Your piece, and Alcoholics Anonymous is so off-base. It is by far the most effective program or remedy we have as a society for people to get sober who are alcoholic. Alcoholism is a deadly disease. It kills most alcoholics, but AA is your best shot. To degrade it shows a world of ignorance which seems to be par for the course with everything on this website. I feel so sorry for the people who actually read it and take it to heart. They walk away even more than before they landed on your website. Congratulations.
Ouch huh?
Okay, maybe not quite so much, ouchy.
Let’s break down this snappy retort to our atheistic rambling and diabolical satanic madness.
84% of the world's [adding punctuation for the possessive ‘s, here, Shakespeare] population is afflicted with a religion and God.
Afflicted? Nice choice of verbs, buddy. Afflicted, like a disease, like a pandemic or a plague or some rampant rampaging STD. We’re with you on this one.
Yeah, but think of the average person, IQ 100, and 50% of the people are as stupid or stupider than him (Thanks George Carlin). So, a big percentage of that 84% includes Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Pagans, illiterates (no, really, those who believe in magical spirits but don’t have written language), and other generally confused human beings who engage in magical thinking.
The mission of Christian Pollution is to confront the harm being done to the world by the overwhelming majority of magical thinking dopes in the USA, the most powerful nation on earth, who call themselves Christians.
If this was during the Roman Empire, we’d be bad-mouthing Jove or Jupiter. In ancient Greece, we’d be dinging Zeus. But in today’s world, the biggest, baddest God horseshit being laid down by the owners of the world and their lackeys, the Mike Johnsons and Ted Cruz’s and Donald J. Trumpers of the known universe, are Christian magical thinking dopes. So, when we hear their idiocy and see drooling fools bow and smile and scratch their crotches, we can’t help ourselves.
You are right to describe me as an atheist, an a-theist, one who doesn’t believe in a big angry guy in the sky sitting on a throne of gold (just like when Donald Trump takes a shit). Just to let you in on a little secret, I used to believe lots of Christian shit, like the Santa Claus thing and Baby Jesus floating around walking on water and raising dead people and growing new limbs on lepers so they could play harps in heaven and what not.
You have some of the most highly intelligent people on the planet even most scientists who believe in a higher power, I love how you think you know better than them.
A higher power? Like two heads are better than one? Like enjoying the mystery of beauty, sunsets, sunrises, fine single malt scotch, a great meal, good sex, and like the U.S. Constitution is more reliable a guidebook for governance than the Christian Nationalist Bible, and Maga, Trumpian, right-wing insurrectionist madness being pushed every Sunday? And on that day of God’s rest, they pass around that 10% tithing platter to pay for the propaganda you’re spoon-fed by bloated philanders, hypocrites, and child molesters who say they know everything God wants you to do?
You sound angry and ignorant in the rants that you call writing. Clearly your way of living has robbed you of your joy, and made you a judgmental fool.
Actually, not to be too picky here, but if we write something down and publish it you are absolutely correct, we do indeed call it “writing.” Sorry if that is confusing to you.
Further, I hate to confess this given your apparent commitment to seeing us as “angry and ignorant” but I’ve never enjoyed this thing I call writing more than I am right now. Oops. My bad, I guess.
I’m not going to argue with you much for your brave and gutsy defense of AA, I bet you’re against torturing kittens and killing puppies too, right? Again, bold stand to take, you moral giant. Good for you.
As for me, having benefited from 12 step shit some years ago, I realize that it has been helpful to many. But in fairness I’d ask you to demonstrate how the criticisms of the program, if they come out of genuine examples and experiences of program failures and problems shouldn’t be reported and dealt with. Seems to me that being honest about problems is a pretty big first step to fixing them.
To degrade it shows a world of ignorance which seems to be par for the course with everything on this website. I feel so sorry for the people who actually read it and take it to heart. They walk away even more than before they landed on your website.
To quote your pal Jesus and his pals, “You will know who we are by our love, by our love.”
Yeah. You betcha. I’m seeing that in spades here. I know you’re praying feverishly for our souls here at C.P.
Hmmm? C.P… YOU MEAN LIKE COMMUNIST PARTY??!!
No, I meant Christian Pollution, but what the hell. We’re nothing but ignorant fools to you, and I couldn’t agree more that our site has a greater likelihood of causing either good or ill for folks who have “actually read” it.
For this last alleged declarative sentence “They walk away even more than before they landed on your website.” I could not possibly agree with you more than to acknowledge that someone (or some group, that whole “They” thing) might even walk away more rather than less than before. Although before what is rather confusing(???)) until we get to before they landed on your website.
Landed, like angels onto the head of a pin, or phrases onto the ears of a moron, or even I sayeth, biblical truths unto thou?
But I can hear your protestations now,
Listen up you so-called writers at CP, you fuckin’ knuckle dragging idiots will know us by our love, by our love. We 84%, who will pray for you unless you have the audacity to spout truths and facts we don’t like, then we’ll shoot you in your fucking faces because of all the love, all the love.
In truth, this last quote wasn’t from our reader. I made this one up—but does anybody doubt that this is exactly what our loving Christian reader is thinking towards us now as he offers his congratulations? Nope. Me neither.
While I agree with much of what you say, I take issue with how you characterize AA. I had the same prejudice when I turned to AA for help with alcoholism. As an atheist, the program did sound ‘religious’ to me. But after using that as an excuse to reject it, I suffered through 10 more years of alcoholism before returning. At that point I understood that the ‘higher power’ could be any thing g or any one - as long as it wasn’t me. This little mind game allowed me to deflate my ego and get out of my own way, which was the crucial component of my recovery. That was more than 30 years ago. So understand that AA works for atheists too.
