I'm gonna have to focus on the parable, but your second re helped me make more sense of it. Thanks for weighing in, old friend. I was going through a bit of grumpy feelings when I worked on this piece, but I am glad I posted it. I hope this finds you well. BTW, the "Be quiet boomer" suggests something else, something even more and worse that Trump is doing to our entire generation: making us look even worse than we actually are, making just simple aging a more frightening disease. Ugly shit, how can one not be a bit depressed about it all from time to time?

And one more, age-related remark: the other day I posted something political, and a young woman replied, "Be quiet, boomer." I wanted to reply, "I'd love to. But since you won't stand up for your own interests not to say justice in general, I'm forced to do it for you." But I didn't reply. I left by her by the river, I suppose.

So once upon a time two monks were traveling across the land. They came to a river where a pretty young maiden was waiting to cross. The older monk said to the girl, "Climb on my back. I'll carry you across." She did, and the three of them crossed safely. Later, as the two monks continued on their way, the older monk turned to the younger one. "You seem discomfited," he said. "I am," said the young monk. According to our vows we are not supposed to associate with women, ever." The older monk nodded, and walked on. "I see you are still carrying her," he said to young one. "But for me, I left her on the river bank." [I've always loved that parable.]
